Understanding Domestic Violence Is the First Step to Ending It

Domestic violence is not just physical harm. It can include emotional abuse, financial control, intimidation, isolation, and other behaviors used to maintain power over another person. Because many forms of abuse are not visible, they can be harder to recognize—but just as harmful.
Learning to identify the different forms of domestic violence is one of the most important ways we can support survivors and prevent abuse in our community. When we understand what abuse looks like, we are better equipped to respond, to help, and to create change.

The first step toward ending domestic violence is understanding what it is. As a family violence prevention center in Crown Point, Indiana, part of our mission at St. Jude House is to provide education and tools that empower individuals – knowing the signs can save lives and help end domestic violence.

We work to raise awareness about the effects of domestic violence on individuals, children and communities. If your organization, church, school or club is looking to feature an educational opportunity, St. Jude House is happy to provide a program that is tailor-made for your group and members.
