Leave a Legacy of Safety, Healing, and Hope
A planned gift to St. Jude House ensures that survivors of domestic violence—and their children—will find safety, shelter, and compassionate care for years to come. Whether your goal is to make a transformational impact, reduce taxes, or provide for loved ones and the causes you love, planned giving can help you do all three.
What Is Planned Giving?
Planned giving (sometimes called legacy giving) is a way to support St. Jude House through your will, trust, beneficiary designations, or other financial plans. Most planned gifts cost nothing today, are easy to set up, and can be changed at any time.
Common benefits:
- Create a lasting legacy aligned with your values
- May reduce income, capital gains, or estate taxes
- Preserve flexibility, you remain in control of your assets
- Often requires only a simple form or a brief update to your estate documents
Simple Ways to Make a Legacy Gift
Include St. Jude House in Your Will or Trust (Bequest)
The most popular legacy gift. You can leave a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder after providing for loved ones.
Sample bequest language (customize the bracketed fields):
“I give [% of my estate / $ / the residue of my estate] to St. Jude House, Inc., a nonprofit organization located at 2490 Marshall St, Crown Point, IN 46307. The tax ID is 35-1905782. , to be used for its general purposes.”
You can also designate your gift for a specific purpose (e.g., emergency shelter, counseling, children’s services). If you would like to do this, please contact us so we can help you craft language that ensures your wishes are honored.
Name St. Jude House as a Beneficiary
An easy, no-cost way to give—simply update beneficiary forms (no lawyer required) for:
- Retirement plans (IRA, 401(k), 403(b))
- Life insurance policies
- Bank or brokerage accounts (TOD/POD)
Suggested designation:
Primary or Contingent Beneficiary: St. Jude House, Inc., Tax ID (EIN): 35-1905782, Address: 12490 Marshall Street, Crown Point, IN 46307.
Give from Your IRA (Qualified Charitable Distribution)
If you are 70½ or older, you may be able to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA to St. Jude House. A QCD can satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution (RMD) and may reduce your taxable income.
Tip: Ask your IRA custodian for their QCD form and request the check be made payable to St. Jude House, Inc. (mailed to our address below).
Donate Appreciated Stock
Giving long-term appreciated securities can be highly tax-efficient: you may avoid capital gains tax and may be able to claim a charitable deduction (if you itemize), while making a larger impact than a cash gift of the same cost.
Recommend a Grant from Your Donor-Advised Fund
If you have a DAF, you can recommend a grant to St. Jude House, Inc. You can also name St. Jude House as a beneficiary of any remaining DAF balance—a simple legacy that supports survivors long into the future.
Life Insurance or Real Estate
You can make St. Jude House the owner or beneficiary of a life insurance policy, or explore gifts of residence, rental property, or land. These gifts can be impactful and may provide meaningful tax advantages. We are happy to discuss options with you and your advisors.
Note: Some planned gift types (such as charitable gift annuities or charitable trusts) may be available through your advisor or partner institutions. We will gladly coordinate with your professional team.
Your Legacy. Their Second Chance.
Every planned gift—of any size—extends a lifeline: an open bed, a counseling appointment, a children’s therapy session, a court advocate at the right moment. Your legacy ensures safety today and stability tomorrow.
