HOPE (Hearts Opening to a Peaceful Empowerment)
A support group for survivors of domestic violence. HOPE will address issues surrounding relationships (healthy and unhealthy), self-esteem, safety, empowerment, early warning signs of an abusive relationship, stress management, and new coping skills.
This group meets from 1:30 to 3:00 pm Tuesdays.
REACH (Realizing Effects of Abuse Can Heal)
A support group to help victims understand the definition of abuse. This group is designed to heighten awareness and educate about domestic violence. Topics include cycle of violence, power and control, and why victims sometimes return to an abusive relationship.
This group meets from 6:30 pm to 8 pm Tuesdays.
Passages
A support group that focuses on issues related to domestic violence and the trauma suffered as a result. Topics include triggers, effects of violence, self-defeating behaviors, self-defense techniques, codependency, and anger management.
This group meets from 6:30 pm to 8 pm Thursdays.
MOSAC (Mothers of Sexually Abused Children)
A support group specifically for mothers of abused children. This group will focus on education and the processing of feelings, fear, and grief associated with dealing with child sexual abuse within a family. Prescreening is required for this group, which runs in an eight-week sequence.
This group meets on Wednesdays – call 219-662-7066 for exact time.
SAFE (Surviving Assault and Feeling Emotions)
This support group is for adult survivors of rape and sexual assault. The goal is to help survivors feel and express the emotions they are experiencing due to the rape/assault, work on the healing process, and be able to successfully move forward in their lives. Prescreening is required. Please call in advance to make arrangements to join.
This group meets Mondays from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm.
STEP (Starting Towards Empowering Pathways)
This group addresses many factors contributing to and involving homelessness. Participants will learn about Maslow’s theory of basic needs, other issues that interfere with stability including generational homelessness, a lack of resources, how to maintain a residence, become stable, and take care of oneself in the process. Group members will also learn to identify and build on strengths that will help them to become self-sufficient.
This group meets Thursday afternoons 1:30 pm – 3 pm and is facilitated by the Case Manager.
Nutrition Group (Residential Only)
This group deals with the everyday proper nutritional needs necessary for healthy living. Participants who complete the six-week sessions receive a certificate, which can be used for employment.
This group meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:30 pm to 3 pm.
House Meeting (Residential Only)
A mandatory group for all residential clients. During house meeting, certain topics are dealt with including communal living, responsibilities while in shelter, menus, and conflict resolution.
This group meets Mondays from 10:30 am to 11:30 am.
For the privacy and confidentiality of group participants, pre-screening is required for all who wish to attend support groups. Please call St. Jude House for further information about any of the support groups or to register to attend.
